Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be the first place that greets you when coming to Jakarta. This airport serves international and domestic flight to and from Jakarta, and it is the 8th busiest airport in the world, with more than 60 million passengers stepping in each year. 1. Take Care of Your Belongings

Make sure to keep your eye on all the belongings in the airport. Do not leave any gadget, jewelry, and other valuable things in the checked luggage. It is strongly advised that you bring all of your valuables to the cabin. If you accidentally left your belongings around the airport, find them at the 'Left Luggage Facilities' in terminal 2D.

2. Porter Service

As passengers arrive at the airport and take out the luggage, there will be some people with uniform along the corridor that offer luggage pick-up service. They are called porters. If you have a lot of luggage and really need a help, ask them to help you. They will ask for a fee after helping you with the luggage. Often they will not ask you exact amount of money, but usually the formula is IDR 30,000 (or USD 3) per bag, so if you do have three big bags, it’s advised you give the porter around IDR 90,000 (or USD 9). Otherwise, you can easily find a trolley station along the way.

3. Availability of Currency Exchange Store

Currency exchange is available on every terminal. The rate is quite credible and competitive as there are many money exchange store competition in each terminal. You can find better rates in money exchange counter that resides in the city. However, it is not easily find one.

4. Work on Your Timing

Traffic jam is a well-known main problem in Jakarta, and moreover it is unpredictable. Soekarno-Hatta Airport located in the far west of Jakarta. To reach centre of the city, you will need 45-60 minutes at least, and if it is in the peak hour (in this case 11am-2pm and 4pm-7pm), it can be up to 120 minutes of traffic.

Therefore, pay attention to your next schedule and spare some more time (at least 3 hours) to anticipate the traffic. When in a rush, it is better to take a taxi or rent a car than a bus. 

5. Means of Transportation

As the airport has 3 terminals with each different building, a free shuttle bus is provided to transfer passengers from one to the other terminal. Please make sure to understand which terminal you aimed before disembark.

When you have done with all the things at the airport and ready to explore Jakarta, one thing that you really need is choose the right transportation. As you exit to the outdoor area, you will find some people that voluntarily offer you a ride. This is called “Black Taxi”. They usually operate independently without an official organization, and offer a high fare without an argometer or taxi meter.

With a concern of security, please consider not taking their service unless you are experienced to do so. Ignore them, just go straight to the airport taxi service and get metered ride. Other than taxi, you can also find Car Rental Station on every terminal.

Bus could also be one of your transportation if you have more time than money. 6. Don’t Look Confused

When arrived, you will need to look firm with your surroundings. When you need some information or might need a help, do not look confused or panic. Do not ask a help from unknown person without uniform.
